47 years ago this week, the 76ers, one of the most entertaining teams in basketball history, played the brand new, New Jersey Nets, in an early season game to remember
What a wonderful story. I had no idea that this had happened. I really enjoyed reading the story and will be reading it again to get the full depth of it.
I vaguely remember Arlene mentioning the kind of seats They had for nets game and remember looking for them on the TV. I think one time I did recognize Stanley there.
Thanks for sending this to me. I really enjoyed reading it.😘
Sandy, glad you enjoyed the story. This was a case of a picture is worth a thousand words. Because as soon as I saw that picture of the 76ers team this morning, all these memories came flooding over me and I realized I had a good story to write, while I was still stuck on how to best put together the Olympics story.
The Nets weren’t even the most popular team to play at the RAC then. The Rutgers basketball team was just coming off of an undefeated 1976 regular season and a trip to the Final Four. Still can’t wrap my head around that an NBA team played their games there for a number of years. But those were great seats! Dr. J. WAS the ABA and it’s a crime that the Nets could not keep him. Thanks for the memories of a fun basketball era!
Thanks Greg! I remember we were going to get season tickets to Rutgers basketball if we couldn't get the Nets season tickets. It's incredible that Rutgers had a powerhouse basketball team for a few years there in the mid-1970s.
Of course I meant hi Lenny not Annie.
