For a sustained MLB 5-year period of pitching greatness, only Pedro Martinez and Lefty Grove come to mind when trying to find an equal to Koufax of the 1960s. He is one of the few athletes I truly wish I had seen in person, in his prime. Is MLB's equivalent to the NFL's Gale Sayers. Who knows where these two end up in All-Time rankings if not for shortened careers.

Lawrence, I completely agree with your comments. I'm looking forward to following Koufax from this point in 1964 right thru to the end of his career in the 1966 World Series. He had a truly remarkable career that I never had an appreciation for until I wrote the article yesterday.
