I doubt the Ice Capades would ever be able to bump the NBA Finals today. But just goes to show how much of a grind the NBA season truly is. Great article!
They were a great team. I watched them play live, up close when they were scary good after they finally won the title in 1978. I was at the game in the 1st row when they beat the Nets 143 - 94. When Elvin Hayes was "on" the Bullets were unbeatable with Unseld and Hayes up front. They went to the championship 4 times in 7 years with Unseld in the middle. And 3 times in 5 seasons with Unseld and Hayes together.
this is great Len. I worked for the Warriors from 2008-2018. I spent time producing short features of this team for the 40th anniversary. Those teammates are still very close today.
Michael, That's very cool. Thanks so much for sharing. Might you be able to share my story with the 1975 team? FYI - I had season tickets to the Nets starting in 1977 and George Johnson was our center, so I saw him play up close for the 3 seasons he was our starting big man. What an incredible shot blocker he was. And I always loved seeing him shoot the underhanded free throws.
FYI, I published a book recently on the 1973 Mets who played the A's in the World Series. The forward was written by Ted Kubiak who was the utility infielder on all 3 A's World Series championship teams from 1972 - 1974. It's called, "The 1973 Mets - You've Got to Believe."

Thanks Greg. It is mind-boggling that both teams got bumped from their home courts for ice shows. What a different era it was.
Thanks for reminding me the Washington basketball team was good once upon a time.
