If I recall, this feat has been achieved by several golfers post-1977. David Duval comes to mind but I am unable to remember whom else has replicated the feat. Regardless, the 1974 season by Miller was a precursor to what we would see from Tiger Woods circa-2000 and beyond. To win (or be near the top of the leaderboard) in so many tournaments in a single season, one would need to Time Travel back to the 1940s and look up Mr. Byron Nelson (a caveat to his success, the war years had somewhat diminished his competition).

Thanks for your comments on this and other stories. I'm glad you're enjoying The Sports Time Traveler. Johnny Miller's great 1974 season, particularly his 3 victories in the opening 3 tournaments spurred my lifelong interest in following the PGA TOUR. We need more Johnny Millers to cultivate additional golf fans.

That was a lame excuse even for the NYT. They should publish a correction if they have any journalistic integrity at all.

I sent a rebuttal to them after I received the email that I shared in the story. They still have not replied to my 2nd attempt to seek a correction. I shared the story of how I got the Home News in New Brunswick to print a correction from a story about my family in 1945, and how the Home News thought it was a great human interest story and turned the correction into it's own story that they printed on the front page of the Home News on 7/4/2021. This could have been a similar story of interest to golf fans for the NY Times.
