Thanks Darin! For the past week I've been scanning the newspaper archives each day in 1924, 1964 and 1974 and I was just not finding a story that was compelling enough to write about.
But the moment I came across the NYT article about Gypsy Burton "trying out" for the 1964 New York Mets, I thought here's a great story that no one knows about. And as it turns out, there has never been another mention in a newspaper anywhere about Gypsy Burton. I also looked for any mention of him in Satchel Paige's Canadian barnstorming tour from the summer of 1963, and again there was nothing. I'm proud to be the one who, after 60 years, is extending the legacy of Gypsy Burton.
