YANKEE STADIUM - July 24, 1961 -
Willie Mays was a beloved figure in New York in the 1950s. From 1951 to 1957, Willie covered centerfield in the Polo Grounds like no other player in history. He was also legendary off the field for spending time with children in the streets of Harlem, playing stickball near his apartment on 155th street.
